You are right, Akron doesn't need a truck company. That is because Pioneer has a truck company, then you got one in New Holland, Lititz, and Manheim Township. However a truck company on the first alarm is a benefical thing, they are more then just an aerial. Plus I'm not sure, but I think NFPA might state that a truck company is needed on the first alarm.

Good to see that an accountability officer was in place by the front door (hopefully he was an officer, and hopefully he did his job right) Thats forgotten all to much these days. Does Lanco use All MSA paks?
Also the ladder companies are more than hydraulic ladder, the are a tool box and carry very essential equipement. They would come in handy at all jobs. But there are many company who are comfy without them, personally i think you cant go wrong with em.

You are right, Akron does not need to OWN a truck company. Ephrata is right down the road. Automatic Mutual Aid from the Truck will be sufficient in the eyes of NFPA and/or ISO. The way that you are running now (by yourselves with a mere 2 engine companies) is far short of either agencies recommendations not to mention just plain stupid. You are part of a very fast dying breed of fire companies in Lanco who haven't been educated as to the great benefits of Mutual Aid provided that your mission is still to benefit the community and not some sort of "protect our ego" mentality.
Lanco has all sorts of SCBA. MSA is strong here, but Scott is popular as well.

Here we never have a truck company respond on a first alarm fire unless it is a commercial or industrial building. Our neighboring dept. (which I am also a member of) has a 100ft tower that they will send us if we need it.
