KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI -- On Tuesday October 27, 2009 around 0845hrs Kalamazoo Dept. of Public Safety Dispatch began receiving several calls reporting that a small plane had crashed on the north end of the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport near Kilgore Rd. The Box Alarm assignment was sent out which brought Airport Crash/Rescue R2 and R3, Kalamazoo Dept. of Public Safety E2, E6, E7, T6. First arriving units confirmed a single engine plane had crashed next to Kilgore Rd. and was on fire. A second alarm was struck which brought City of Portage E2 , E3 and Comstock E911 and E912. Airport units quickly had the fire knocked and the second alarm assignment was cancelled. The pilot had somehow missed a large building and several cars in the parking lot before skidding to stop.
