Southampton Double Fatal Dwelling Fire
February 17th, 2008 At approximately 04:35 hours Task Force 172 Station 431 Engine 292 were dispatched to Westminster Dr and Huntington Dr for a reported dwelling fire. C1710 and C4300 both went enroute and where advised by dispatch of a neighbor reported hearing an explosion and can now see fire from a home nearby. C1710 arrived at 04:42 hrs with a 1 1/2 story SFD with heavy fire showing from the Division A garage area extending into the residence. C4300 arrived at 04:44 hours and was assigned operations. C1710 reported he had a car in the driveway with the unknown location of the occupants and requested the assignment be upgraded to victims trapped. RE1712 arrived first due with a crew of six and was ordered to split there crew with three advancing an 1 3/4 hand line to division C and the other three to Division C for the search. Q4314 arrived and split its crew to begin opening up and assisting with the search. E1713 arrived and established a water supply to RE1712 with 5" line from the hydrant. As Q4314's crew was making entry RE1712's crew reported they had located one victim in the front left bedroom and was bringing the victim out. RE1712's crew removed the victim to the kitchen where the victim was transferred to Q4314 and a member from RE1712's who transported the victim to the street. The crew from Q4314 and RE1712 began CPR until arrival of Medics and A1781. E1723 arrived and pulled a second line off RE1712. E2923 arrived and placed ladders and pulled a third line off of RE1712. Q4314's crew proceeded back into the home to conduct a secondary search for a second victim. Crews located the second victim in the center of residence near the front. This victim was DOA and was left in place for CSI. E1722's Crew pulled a CAFS line off of Q4314 to knock down the remainder of the fire in the garage area. C4300 requested PSEG for a hot electrical service on Division A/D and had crews making good progress on the fire. RE1911 had RIT on the division A/D corner. C2900 had Safety. E4311 arrived and was assigned to pulling the wall and siding on Division B. With the bulk of the fire knocked down in the garage Q4314's ladder pipe was put in-service to knock down all hot spots. Crews where on scene for several hours with extensive overhaul. R4399 & A4391 had rehab operations. The members would like to send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of victims.
