LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. - An 82-year-old East Donegal Township man was killed Tuesday when he was struck by a motorcycle in front of his home, investigators said.
Frank Parduski Sr. had walked onto Rock Point Road in an attempt to slow the motorcyclist, who was traveling west into Maytown, according to police and witness accounts.
Parduski died at the scene of the 4:52 p.m. crash after attempts to revive him failed, police said.
The collision flung Parduski several yards onto a grassy shoulder, neighbors said.
The motorcyclist, 19-year-old Jason Barclay of East Donegal Township, was thrown off his vehicle and seriously injured, police said. He was being treated at Lancaster General Hospital late Tuesday, and his condition was unavailable, Susquehanna Regional police Lt. Stephen Englert said.
Neighbors said the motorcyclist, a member of Maytown Fire Company, was "speeding up and down" Rock Point Road prior to the crash, which occurred about 50 yards from the fire station.
The posted speed limit on that part of Rock Point Road is 35 mph, investigators said.
Englert declined to comment on how fast the rider was traveling, but said he was "being disruptive" while riding the motorcycle through town.
Parduski walked across the eastbound lane of Rock Point Road and was struck in the westbound lane, investigators said.
No charges had been filed as of late Tuesday night.
Englert said the wreck is being investigated by Susquehanna Regional police, the Lancaster County district attorney's office and Northwest CRASH Team.
Tuesday night, Parduski's neighbors expressed outrage over the incident.
John Nauman, who lives across the street from Parduski, said he saw the man gardening outside his home prior to the crash.
Minutes later, Nauman said, he heard the motorcycle's engine.
"You could tell (the driver) was winding it out. It was one of those crotch rockets," Nauman said. "That guy was flying, and the next thing I heard was sirens. Then, I saw the Life Lion (medical helicopter) land on the ball field" at Fuhrman Park.
Nauman said there is often "carrying on" at the Maytown firehouse. "Everybody turns a blind eye to it," he said.
"Now, a man is struck down in the road trying to slow these people down," Nauman said. "What the hell is going on here?"
Englert said neighbors have had an "ongoing problem" with the fire company.
Greg Seitz, another neighbor, said the motorcyclist was "hot-dogging" prior to the crash.
"This just isn't right," he said.
The crash closed Rock Point Road from Route 743 to Lorraine Avenue for about four hours, police said.
An autopsy is scheduled for this morning.
