This happened a few towns over from me today... Chunk of frozen dirt kills Bartlett driverBy Justin Kmitch Daily Herald Staff Writer Posted Wednesday, February 21, 2007 A Bartlett man was killed this afternoon after a large chunk of frozen dirt smashed through the roof and windshield of his car. Without any witnesses, Bartlett police are still trying to piece together exactly what happened. But they presume the debris fell from or was kicked up by a truck traveling in front of the victim on Route 59. Bartlett Police Commander Patrick Ullrich said deceased is a 51-year-old Bartlett man who was driving his 1999 Grand Am north on Route 59 near Pebble Beach Lane when the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. The victim’s identity hasn’t yet been revealed by authorities. Ullrich said the man’s car came to a stop a quarter of a mile north of the accident near Baytree Drive. Ullrich said police have no information on the truck driver and are asking witnesses to come forward. Bartlett police released this picture of the car in which a driver died after a chunk of mud fell into the windshield. “It’s unlikely that the driver of the truck even knows any of this occurred,” he said. “So we need some help.” Anyone who may have information or saw the crash is asked to call Bartlett police at (630) 837-0846. jkmitch@dailyherald.com
