Around 1915hrs Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Dept. (KCSD) dispatched Comstock North and Central and Kalamazoo Twp Stat. 2 Fire (initial aid) to the 6300 blk of East JK Ave. for a reported structure fire. Units responded: R/E 951 R/E 922 E911 E923 C990 KTFD E812
While enroute KCSD advised they were receiving numerous calls of working fire and the building was a vacant apartment building. First arriving units advising they had a 2 story apart. building with heavy fire showing from the second floor apartment. C990 took command and all units went to work. 2 13/4 lines were pulled and 2 crews went interior and begn to fight the fire. One crew was inside and me and my crew had the second line to back up the first crew in. A crew was sent to the roof to ventilate. The fire was knocked down rather quickly and overhaul began. The fire was contained to mostly one apartment. A roofing company had just just left about an hour before the fire and they were using a torch on the roof which looks like was the cause of the fire. No injuries reported and all units cleared about 2145hrs.
