Around just before 9pm on Monday, units from the 7th, 3rd and 5th Battalions were alerted for a possible building fire in the area of Frank Tippett Road & Rosaryville Road, in Company 45's area.
As units were responding, numerous companies reported heavy column of black smoke in the area, as well as Truck 25 requesting the Working Fire Dispatch to be filled. As units approached the scene, they discovered a 1 story lob cabin type structure fully involved about 1/2 mile back of the hard surface. Engine 452, and Truck 25 jumped the curb, and proceeded through a windy trail/driveway to find this structure with fire through the roof, and engulfed. Battalion Chief 7 (Chief 40B), arrived next, assuming the Rosaryville Road Command, and requested all other units, stage out on the hard surface. Next arriving was Engine 235 who picked up 452's line. Soon followed by Engine 401, Engine 202 and Squad 20. Chief 25B assumed Operations, Chief 23 will Safety, and all units with exterior operations. Command soon requested 2 brush units (Brush 36, and Brush 82), for a moving brush fire to the rear of the structure, with mostly all attack lines off Engine 452, units were able to bring the Brush fire under control, and Command placed the brush units in service. Engine 202, laid out a couple hundred feet of 3 inch, from Williamsburg Drive, the neighborhood adjacent to the driveway, to supply Truck 25 for ladder pipe operations, crews from Engine 452, Engine 202, Engine 401, Engine 262, and Engine 235 rotated to overhaul and surround and drown the structure. Command finally held units from 45, 25, 20 and 23 for overhaul, and finally down to 45 and 25. On a side note, Engine 452's driver, amazingly got the wagon stuck in a big mud hole on Side Alpha on the building, and they proceeded to back the wagon out, but soon found the wagon nose deep in a bigger mud hole. A tow truck from Charley's was requested in the middle of the incident, and was driven back to tow E452 out of the hole (s).
Units on the scene: Engine 452, Engine 401, Engine 202, Engine 235, Engine 262, Truck 25, Truck 32, Truck 17, Squad 20, Tanker 23, Brush 36, Brush 82, Water Supply 25, Support Unit 25, Ambulance 409, Medic 25, EMS 14, Battalion Chief 7 (Chief 40B as Command), Chief 20A, Chief 20B, Chief 25B, Chief 26A, Chief 23, Chief 27 (Division Chief 2), Safety Officer 1, Car 1514, Chief 5 (Volunteer Operations Chief), Chief 17
