That second vid... my ex has a similar problem. She get's hiccuping spells that last for 48-72 hours, exactly like that girl. My ex has had them for 4 yrs. Hers started right after she had sudden epileptic seizures in high school. Kinda interesting.... same thing... docs have no clue wtf is causing it.

I guess everyone has to start paying better attention to your PASS alarms... I know one time I took off an MSA air pack after a working fire and I forgot to turn off the air cylinder and the PASS alarm start going off about 20 minutes later with no movement... Kinda make ya think.
I never had a problem with Scott Pak's, they always seemed to annoy me more then fail... I guess thats a good thing though.

I guess anything is prone to fail. Imagine waiting 20 minutes for your brothers to come and find you. I don't know what type of pass device MSA utilizes. I do know that SCOTT uses the same identical one they are talking about in the video, scary because that is what we use. I couldn't wait till they came out with the integrated pass device, because I always forgot or was too lazy to turn the old manual ones on. Now I don't even know if the integrated automatic one on my pack is going to work properly if it gets wet.
Cooter, that sucks at least they went away after a while. That girl looks like she will have them the rest of her life, unless they figure something out.

Yeah she would get them and they aggravated the seizures so they threw her into a very violent grand mal seizures.... sometimes one after another. She's a mess and I feel bad for. That was the reason we broke up though. As for the video... I read the article a couple weeks ago and I am the SCBA guy at my dept. We started taking mesure to ensure they work properly. We used a high temp silicon type glue on the cracks of our MSA integrated PASS's. We're not sure what else we can do, but my Lt.(who also an SCBA guy) was definalty alarmed by the article. We've been in touch with our MSA rep. in the area and trying to come up with ideas on combating possible problems.

I think the manufacturer should be responsible for fixing and preventing failure of their equipment. We should not have to go out of our way to prevent equipment failure ourselves, if it does fail after we try to fix it we will be the ones that feel responsible.
