Anyone remember that little incident with Boston Ladder 15 a few months ago? Here's one really good way to damage your aerial... Watch when the video gets 01:00 in. www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-6M0WUbGWQ

Back to the venting with the stick. As bad as some people make it, that happens alot more than you think. A few months after the 6 FF's lost their lives in Worcester, MA. I was driving home from doing work up there. Came across a 3 story apartment fire, and saw the first arriving ladder company (behind the Engine Co.), do the same thing. Vented the 2nd, and 3rd floor windows with the stick. As soon as the 2nd and 3rd trucks arrived, they did the same thing. Some companies feel that it is an acceptable practice to do.

Boston fire is "encouraged" to do that if they are low on manpower, or if other units are slow getting to the scene to aid in outside venting.
