Man Attempts Suicide on Norman Wood Bridge By Jeanne Ruczhak-Eckman MARTIC TOWNSHIP -- A local man remains hospitalized after shooting himself one time in the face this morning. A man in his 40s was driving eastbound across the Norman Wood Bridge when he suddenly stopped his vehicle, jumped out and, in front of two witnesses, shot himself. One of the witnesses, according to Sgt. Douglas J. Burig, is an EMT and rendered first aid until the arrival a medical evacuation helicopter took the patient to Lancaster General Hospital, where he underwent surgery. He sustained "significant injury to his face and head," said Burig. He remains in critical condition tonight, according to a hospital spokesperson. The incident occurred shortly before 7 a.m., said Cpl. John Dube. Providence Township and Susquehanna Valley EMS also responded. The victim used a 9 mm handgun and has only been identified, at this time, as a white male in his 40s as a Southern Lancaster County resident, pending notification of next of kin.
