To all:
I wish to thank from the bottom of my heart everyone that was involved in the water rescue, subsequent search, and recovery at the Holtwood Dam in Lancaster County, PA. As some of you already know, the missing teenager, Nicki Barlow, is my niece, and I want to make sure that everyone knows how extremely grateful I personally, and the rest of our family is to all of you for your efforts. It is impossible for me to personally thank each and every one of you that were involved. This is the best way that I know how.
It was extremely comforting to know that everyone was doing all that they could to find Nicki. Your efforts have made me even more proud to be a member of the Emergency Services brotherhood. Thank you to those whom took time off from work to try and find her for us.
It was hard for me to be at the staging area on Sunday 4/29 and Monday 4/30 and be watching the rescue attempts. Instead of being a rescuer, this time, I was on the other side of the coin. All I could do was stand there, and watch. I am appreciative of those who offered kind words.
Now that Nicki has finally been found, we can have closure on this tragedy. I will miss seeing her smile and hearing that laugh of hers. The last time I saw her was our family Easter get-together, as we hugged each other goodbye as they left. While Nicki is in a much better place, we have the wonderful memories of the 16 years she was with us, and we will eventually meet her again.
Thanks to those from the area fire & EMS companies that showed up to the funeral last Thursday to show your respects.
Again, Thanks for all you have done, and anyone that was involved in the search for Nicki that may be reading this; please take back to your stations my gratitude to your crews. You guys and gals are awesome. I will never forget what you did. God bless you all.
Yours in the Fire Service,
