The fire, which appeared to be an accident, was reported shortly before 4 a.m. by another resident in the home at 17417 Railroad Ave. Smoke was seen coming from the second floor where the victims lived. Lansing police identified the victims as 29-year-old Priscilla Herrera, and her son, Angel Herrera, 9. But the Cook County medical examiner's office identified the boy as Oscar Herrera. They were both pronounced dead at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey. "We found the two victims right away. We pulled them out. Unfortunately, we were unable to revive them at the scene," Lansing Fire Department Chief Dan Gregorovic said. The fire appeared to have started in a second-floor bathroom, Gregorovic said, but the flames did not spread beyond that floor. The resident who reported the fire lived on the first floor, which sustained smoke damage, and got out of the house safely, the chief said. The flames were put out within 5 minutes of the arrival of fire personnel. The Calumet City, South Holland and Thornton Fire Departments assisted Lansing firefighters, Gregorovic said.
