Around 1730 hrs yesterday Comstock FD was dispatched to a reported structure fire called in by a passer by in the 6900 blk of MN Ave. Units responded were Engines 951, 911, 912, 923 and a tanker from Pavillion Twp. Chief 990 arrived first and reported he had heavy smoke showing on the backside of the residence. 951 arrived first and handlines were pulled and water supply was set up. It was found that the fire was in the attic area and confined to that area. Firefighters extinguished the fire before the fire could spread to other parts of the house. A cellulose vaccum unit was requested from Galesburg Fire Dept. to respond to help with overhaul of the attic space. The passer by had gotten out the lone occupant. One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion on scene (90 degree temps that day) and sent home. The cause is believed to be electrical in nature.

They are pretty neat. They are a unit inside an enclosed trailer tha sucks out the cellulose and just spits out on the ground. The only drawback we have found using it is if the insulation is wet it clogs the vacuum. There are 2 of them in the our county.
