Around 1530hrs this afternoon an explosion occured in a printing buisness in what is known as Eastown section in the City of Grand Rapids Mi. A worker from the local gas company was onscene for a report of a gas leak. The worker was onscene for about an hour when he found the leak in the basement. He was in process of evacuating the building when the explosion occured. He was blown across the street while some others were trapped in the rubble when the building collapsed. Approximately 7 people were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. Most of the people were rescued by police officers that were in the area. GRFD arrived with fire showing believed to be caused by the gas leak. It took the gas company about 1-2hrs to get the gas shut off because they had to dig up the line to cut it off. Fire crews were still on the scene this evening dousing hot spots. www.woodtv.comPhoto courtesy of woodtv.com:
