937 Robin Dr.
Around 18:00 CDT Tri-Com dispatch alerted the Batavia FD to smoke in a house. Upon arrival, BFD Engine 4 reported smoke pushing out from the front door and labeled a working fire. BFD Bat. Chief 1 took the Robin Dr. Command with Geneva Engine 208 laying out. Fire was upgraded toe Batavia Special alarm bringing the call back personnel in reserve apparatus. About 10 minutes later Robin Dr. command gave an update stating they had a working well off basement fire with a great deal of extension to the first floor and was NOT under control. With that, command request MABAS Box #3911 to the 1st Level. After another 10-15 command let Tri-Com know they still were having issues with confinement and due to the single digit temps. they requested MABAS Box #3911 to the 2nd Level for ENGINES TO THE SCENE ONLY...bringing much needed relief to frozen equipment and personnel. It has been downgraded to a General Alarm assignment and will remain so for quite some time.
They've been on the scene for several hours and are still working... unknown what is actually going, but the fire is out, but I believe it's an overhaul nightmare!!! BTW a MABAS Box the 2nd Level is the equivalent to a 3rd alarm. We get the shaft b/c of our inadequate staffing... we're tons closer than several of the 2nd level companies, but they're career. We are not a county governed CAD box system. Each dept. in the MABAS division can pick and choose whom they want by response, staffing and what not at each divisional monthly meeting. We're the 4th level for an engine to the scene. I agree and disagree. It's nice they think about the burden it is for us to go out of town so limited manpower.
