This happened on Jan. 9th, but worth posting... due to the fact that S. Elgin has ran two fires within days of each other.
A fire Wednesday morning killed a dog and damaged a garage at 1292B Jenna Drive. Cmdr. Allen Etheridge of the South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District said the tenant of the adjoining duplex, Raul Brito, noticed flames and smoke about 10 a.m. Etheridge said firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to the main part of the home but were unable to save Brito's dog, which had been confined to the garage. Etheridge said investigators believe the fire was started by a space heater placed too close to flammable materials.
