1029 Center Street Working Fire in a converted residential Elgin Fire Station 1's First Due
A 52-year-old Elgin man was hospitalized after an early-morning fire Friday at 1029 Center St., Elgin.
The man was rescued from a second-floor apartment in a house that had been converted to three apartments, Elgin Fire Battalion Chief Dan Wagner said. The victim was conscious.
He was brought to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, and later transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Residents of all three apartments were displaced by the fire, which was contained to the man's apartment. Damage is estimated at $5,000 for structure and $10,000 for contents, Wagner said. The cause has not been determined.
The fire was reported at 2:51 a.m.
