UPDATE... Apparently there was a rescue MADE!!! Below is the the link to the picture angle I had the opportunity to get, but didn't have the nicer cam with me!!! ARRRRGGG.... www.suburbanchicagonews.com/couriernews/news/665397,EL24_ELGINFIRE_WEB.article November 24, 2007 FROM STNG WIRE REPORTS ELGIN- Flames trapped a man on the second floor of a west-side office building late Friday, leading to a dramatic rescue by police who smashed out a window and helped the man jump to the roof of a police sport utility vehicle waiting below. The man, who had been working late inside the building, suffered only minor injuries, police said. The flames erupted late Friday at an office building located just northwest of the intersection of Larkin and Lyle avenues. At least four area departments were called out to assist the Elgin Fire Department, which was called out to the fire about 10:45 p.m., Elgin police Sgt. Glenn Theriault said. "When we arrived, flames were licking out all over the place," Theriault said. "There were flames all across the front and out the roof." A firefighter credited Elgin police who arrived at the scene first with rescuing the man who was trapped inside. Theriault described the man's harrowing plight, noting that when officers arrived, they could see him through a second-floor window on the south side of the building. "We pulled up a Tahoe under the window," Theriault said. "We broke the window and had him jump out onto the roof" of the police vehicle. Theriault said the man suffered only minor injuries. "He was working late -- I believe he was one of the chiropractors," Theriault said. Despite the scope of the fire and the size of the building, firefighters had the blaze under control within about 10 to 15 minutes, although hot spots continued to smolder between the roof and a drop ceiling, authorities said. Police and fire crews remained on the scene into the early morning hours. Some were beginning to leave shortly after 1 a.m., but firefighters remained on the scene until after 2 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Crews from the West Dundee Fire Department and the South Elgin, Rutland-Dundee Townships and Pingree Grove fire protection districts assisted the Elgin Fire Department during the blaze.
