EPHRATA BOROUGH, PA -- On Tuesday May 13th, Students and teachers from Ephrata High School along with Local Emergency services from Ephrata Area Rescue Squad, Pioneer Fire Company, Akron Fire Company, Lincoln Fire Company with EMS units from Ephrata Ambulance, Medic 4 and Medevac 8 aeromedical from Lancaster Airport displayed a mock DUI crash for students. This scenario of a fatal crash with people trapped was held in front of the High school with Senior and Junior students watching. This was the first time the Ephrata High School held this type of event for students showing them the deadly effects of drinking and driving. All Companies located with-in the Ephrata Area School District along with Ephrata Police Department assisted with making this event possible and drove the point to the effects these bad choices can make as the students watched Emergency workers work to save their friends. Many other schools hold these scenarios in hopes of preventing deadly crashes after prom night and other school sponsored events. Around the world many teenagers are killed every year after dances and other school events due to drinking and driving and other substance abuse issues. We did the same t shirt thing 2 weeks ago for our prom, but we don't do the mock MVA anymore. I guess the thought was to show them the "Real" stuff vs. seeing a car get cut apart, which to most of them think is cool. The message sinks in better when ya have real speakers. Those who had the t shirts on here couldn't not talk to anyone at any point during the school day and no one could talk to them.

Very good job! We do a Mock DUI as our local Prom Promise every TWO years for our local high school. The students in Students Against Destructive Decision (SADD) and the Key Club and the local fire and EMS and police get involved. I think it works very well and opens a lot of eyes. Again, good job.

Yeah that’s quite a good thing. In my opinion, it is important to raise awareness among young kids so they don’t get into wrong things when grow up. My uncle has been working as a DUI lawyer and he was telling me that such drivers should take place more often.
