Old Saybrook, Connecticut Middlesex County
Saybrook fire was dispatched to a lightning strike in the boro of Chalker Beach. Prior to arrival the police reported a working fire on the third floor, with smoke pushing out of the closed windows. Engine 351 arrived and stretched an 1 3/4 attack line to the third floor to knock down the fire that met them as they came up the stairs. engine 352 secured the water supply, while 371 truck made the roof and prepared to vent. ( It was here that the entrance for the lightning strike was found). Engine 353 responded from station coverage and arrived shortly after the attack line was stretched. half of engine 3's crew threw ladders while the other half searched the thrid floor and assisted with ventilation and overhaul.

The fire was knocked within minutes and was confined to the bedroom and hallway which comprised all odf the third floor. light extension was quickly extinguished during overhaul. Engine 3 was released to return back to station coverage for essex's 175th anniversary. if you look closely you can see where the lightning entered the structure. off to the right of the windows along the eves.
