What is the difference between a pumper and a wagon? I am going to guess the response order, wagon being second.

since from a by gone age..have some questions..first. yrs back we tryed to make every eng (pumper) the same..identical depending on veh desire as non crew cabs of today..each rig had same load of hose as distance (but we used 2.5 dacron jacket-brass) 1500 feet was normal... booster tanks were what u got per rig and age...and tools were set up identical and at least 2 air paks (in cases) per rig...today difference abound as to more of every thing as crews can exceed tail board ridings..and thus specialization is in order...
specifically a pumper is directed to supply water depending on the urban/rural area layout as an wagon should actually pass the pumper hitting the hydrant as lay from it to scene if short enough to its hose load...relays are paramont to tandom lays from mutual aid...as is water supply as rural tanker operations..shuttles and so forth...
if rigs are noted as plentiful a second due pumper could come and be the anchor at hydrant if the lay is known to be long to have first pumper be middle man. this is all speculation as every area is different...command has job of pre-planing as many as u can and train as to synerios needed... but to me.. a wagon is a hose tender.. its role is to be at the scene recieve water disburse water to ariels and have ground support if manpower is good..
