Kalamazoo Twp. Kalamazoo County Mich BOX8 Lakewood District Command Post at Carlton and Willis St. Evacuation of homes flooded by the Kalamazoo River Units responded: All available manpower from all 4 stations E821 R852 Over this past weekend we received nearly 10in. of rain from Fri night to Sun . night which caused alot of localized flooding around the Kalamazoo area. Last night people from the county opened the Morrow Pond Damn to relive pressure from the damn itself. This caused water to go into the Kalamazoo River which ended flooding several neighborhoods in our Lakewood District. We spent the morning and part of the afternoon getting people out of there homes that were surrounded by water. We were also assisting the local power company in turning off power to homes that were flooded. The crew I was a part of helped get a woman and her cat out of her home by boat. This was definitely a first for me to see something like this. Fortunately many people were glad to see us helping which obviously made feel good knowing we helped them as best as we could in there time of need.
