Three people were trapped and three others were able to free themselves when two cars hit head-on early this morning in Riverdale Heights.
Around 2:30 am (10/4) units from Riverdale Heights station 813, Hyattsville station 801 along with several EMS units was alerted for a motor vehicle accident at Riverdale Road and Auburn Ave.
Units arrived on the scene and reported a two car accident with one person trapped in one car and two other trapped in the second vehicle.
A second rescue was requested to the scene to assist in removing two of the trapped victims.
The crew from Hyattsville Rescue Squad 801 and the crew from Berwyn Heights Rescue Squad 814 (second rescue squad) were able to free the three victims within 20 minutes; they were transported to a local trauma center in serious condition.
Three others also were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by county police.
