This has hit our community pretty hard... 2 of our cadets knew them well. Courtesy of the Kane County Chronicle KANEVILLE TOWNSHIP – Two Kaneland High School seniors were killed in a car crash at 9:15 a.m. this morning on Harter Road near Lorang Road in Kaneville Township, police said. The passenger, Jeffery Malewig, 17, 240 Meadows, Sugar Grove, was pronounced dead at the scene, Kane County Sheriff’s Lt. Pat Gengler said. The driver, Blake Denton, 17, 348 Mallard Lane, Sugar Grove, died shortly after being flown by Lifestar to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, he said. The car was a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix traveling north on Harter Road. The car crossed the center line and left the roadway on the west side of Harter Road, striking a tree on the passenger side, Gengler said. Both teens were scheduled to start their school day at 9:24 a.m. Kaneland school officials have assembled a crisis team to talk to students. All after-school and evening activities tonight, including the madrigal performance for sixth-grade students, have been canceled. Gengler said the crash is under investigation. Kaneville Units: Rescue-Engine 1601 w/ 3 Chief 1611 Battalion 16 Big Rock Rescue Units: Medics 1551 & 1552 both w/ 2 Rescue 1507 w /4 Lifestar 1 helicopter Battalion 16 had the LZ command, 1601 had the initial extrication ops. till rescue 1507 arrived and then manned a hoseline and assited with scene ops.
