MOUNT JOY, Pa. - A woman was badly burned in a garage fire late Friday morning in Mount Joy Township, state police said, but her identity was not released and the garage's owner has no idea who the woman is.
Investigators are probing the cause of the fire at 9418 Elizabethtown Road. Firefighters responded shortly after 11:30 a.m., according to a news release from state police.
Elizabethtown Fire Company Chief John Drey declined Friday afternoon to release any details about the fire.
The owner of the garage, Ruth H. Baum, said she was returning home shortly after noon when emergency officials stopped her.
"I was trying to come down the road and was turned away," Baum said. "I didn't realize it was my house until I took another road and saw the flames."
The homeowner, whose residence is across a driveway from the garage, said the fire was still raging when she got to her property.
"I saw about 12 to 15 fire tankers," Baum said. "They were working on the fire. It was still going."
The one-story garage, which was made of cement blocks and a galvanized steel roof with a front porch, was destroyed, Baum said.
Baum said she lost a tractor and pop-up camper in the blaze.
She said firefighters told her there was also a car in the garage.
"It's not mine," Baum said. "I have no idea how it got there, especially since the garage was always locked."
Baum said fire officials mentioned the injured woman, but she did not know any details and did not know who it could be.
State police fire marshal Anthony Thomas is investigating.
