EARL TOWNSHIP, PA – Around 21:21 Hours on Sunday September 16th, Units From Engine Company 3 (Martindale) along with Rescue Squad 39 and EMS were alerted to the area of 600 block of Lancaster Avenue for the reported PIC with entrapment. Units on the Rescue Local were advised by fire radio of a two vehicle crash with people trapped and possibly into a structure. Before FD’s response, two bystanders from the area arrived after witnessing the crash and rapidly extricated one of two patients from the car as it began to start on fire. The two men pulled the girl to safety as other bystanders and themselves start fire suppression to protect the heavily pinned driver. On the arrival of Company 3, units split crews and assisted on both vehicles as EMS units started to arrive. Rescue Squad 39 (Garden Spot Fire-Rescue) was advised by command while en-route of the entrapment of the driver. During operations a direct fly of aero-medical was requested due to the patient’s condition and unknown extrication time. Crews worked for over 15 minutes to free the trapped driver from the heavily wrecked vehicle. In all, three priority one patients were transported with one patient being flown.
Makinthehit.com staff would like to credit the first in bystanders on a job well done. It’s without a doubt these two men and other bystanders saved lives by their quick actions. On a side note, this is one of the worse crashes I had ever seen within the area. Strong work by all providers involved!
