Second Alarm Structure Fire
Stations 1, 4, 20 were alerted to a reported structure fire on Henry Middleton Ln. in Cypress River Plantation. Rescue 1 arrived to find a 2 story residential structure with attached 2 story garage having approx. 50 % fire involvement. Lt. Howell established the command and requested a second alarm assignment. Station 1 units and medic 20 made an aggressive fire attack in an attempt to cut off the fire between the garage and house. Ladder 4, Engine 4, arrived and were assigned to perform vertical ventilation. Engine 20 arrived and established a secondary water supply. Forestbrook 3 ( Captain Begovich ) arrived and assumed command moving Lt. Howell to interior division. A leader line operation was initiated to reach the Charlie division and division 2. Station 1 units attempted to make fire attack on division 2 but were met with rapidly deteriorating conditions. After a partial collapse of the garage all interior units were pulled from the structure and a defensive attack was initiated. Battalion 2 ( Chief Todd ) arrived and assumed the command, moving Capt. Begovich to operations. After a brief defensive operations units transitioned back to offensive interior attack. Due to fire in collapsed areas of the roof line and a severely weakened structure all units were again withdrawn and exterior operations continued. Units operated for approx. 4 hours, and no injuries were reported.
