The Old Saybrook fire dept was sent to 210 main st. the paper back cafe for a fire in a roof

The fire was located in the roof and appeared to burn from the outside in. once the fire found its way into the facadeof the roof it spread and began to extend into the siding of the building. the facade was opened up and the fire was knocked rather quickly, crews also went inside the cafe, and an adjacent restaurant to open the ceilings and check for extension. RIT from clinton, an engine and rescue from Essex, along with an engine from westbrook for station coverage. 1 firefighter suffered injuries to his foot during operations on the fireground. response from osfd: attack: Eng. 351 supply: Eng. 353 lader 371 ladder 372 rescue 391 Ambulance 34 command chief 302 response from Essex: Eng. 652 (west side) rescue 6-9 Rit from clinton rescue 996 station coverage from westbrook: Eng. 467

The cause was believed to be a cigarette that was flicked up on the low hanging roof, getting wedged under a tile. the place is a common teen hangout with kids often messing around with their cig's.
