Chester, CT middlesex cnty. Dept 7 was alerted to a house fire on 85 wig hill rd, automatic mutual aid for full responses from Haddam (13) Deep River (5) and Killingworth (8). The residence was a large home in the shape of an octagon, the roof was 20 ft high and made overhaul difficult. Fire was mostly confined to the roof and attic area. In someones infinte wisdom a ladder was never started to the scene until late, and a RIT Team was never brought to the scene (would have been Old Saybrook engine 351). Instead the engine that would have supplied RIT was sent to cover Deep River's HQ. Westbrook also provided coverage to Deep Rivers second station in winthrop.
Ill post a pic or two.

the roof was almost unreachable by ground ladder, the IC finally realized that he needed a truck in there to get to the roof. however chester doesnt have on so they called south district truck 34 to the scene. by that time the driveway was already bottled up so it took them about 10 minutes just to get the truck up the road.

another great job by the Chester Fire Department.....I was just told by a Deep River guy the only reason the ladder was started was because someone just about fell from the roof........
