ETNA BOROUGH, PA -- Shortly after 2am on Sunday, March 18th, Allegheny County 911 dispatched a first alarm assignment for the 300 block of Butler Street in Etna Borough for a reported possible structure fire located in the rear of Amato’s Pizza. Etna fire chief arrived on scene moments later and notified county dispatch that the fire was located in a 3 story apartment building with heavy fire in the rear of the structure, he also reported multiple power lines down in the rear and immediately requested a second alarm be dispatched. Several exposures also became involved as firefighters worked feverishly to contain the flames that quickly became a 4 alarm fire. Firefighters from Etna, Cherry City, Undercliff, Sharpsburg, Aspinwall, Millvale, Sharps Hill, Shaler Villa, Bauerstown, Mt.Troy, Elfinwild and Berkeley Hills responded to the fire. Several people in several apartments were displaced due to the intense flames. Several businesses located on the first floors of the buildings involved were also damaged. There is no word on what caused this massive fire and the Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s office along with Etna police are still investigating.
